" I was cut to the quick as a result of the colossal sell out of the song. "

Come on.... First of all, by now we should realize that none of our sacred tunes or bands are sacrosanct when it comes to marketing products. I have heard Led Zepplin, Bob Dylan, Beatles The Who and countless other bands in commercials over the years,

Secondly, this is not a Dead tune, but a cover that many have played, i.e. Stones, Stephen Stills, Greg Kihn etc. The copyright, if it isn't in the public domain, probably belongs to the estate of the late great Buddy Holly, and as we have seen with copyrights owned by people other than the artist themselves ( i.e. Michael Jackson with the Beatles library) it is all about the money.

Don't be surprised if, as the years go by and the copyrights of the Dead fall into family or other peoples hands, we start hearing some Dead tunes used for commercial purposes. The only thing that would stop that would be that most of them (with the possible exception of Touch) are not familiar to the masses.and thus would not be in great demand by corporations( thank God!!)

i would be ok with that - doesn't feel so "corporate" - plus it would sound and look so cool with the right vid clips

When Michael Jackson outbid Paul McCarteney for the rights to The Beatles' catalog, all bets were off.
